Volquez's start

Volquez started definitively, throwing consecutive strikes around 94 mph. But lead-off batter Jimmy Rollins managed a hit to shallow right field on the third pitch.

Defensive handiwork in the outfield dispatched the next two batters.

Then Volquez walked Ryan Howard. Rollins and Howard advanced a base on a Paul Bako passed ball.

The Phillies’ final first-inning batter, Pat Burrell, hit the ball right back to the mound. Volquez got the easy out at first, stranding the two runners.

I'm just sitting here watching Volquez pitch and laughing my head off with joy! Wow, if these studs can pitch anywhere close to this 3 of every 5 turns, watch out Central Division!

Me too, redfuture. My friends and family don't understand why I'm so giddy. I feel like I'm in a wonderful Reds' dream and I don't want to wake up. I know it's early, but this is really exciting.
